About the Show
It’s a fast paced evening of forty-five short plays, one about each of the men who have been President of the United States. The mini-plays, performed by a cast of 5 women, provide crowd-pleasing morsels of trivia about the Presidents. Despite the short-form nature of the night, audiences walk away with a new appreciation of an American history where the Presidency has been held (in almost equal measure) by those of greatness, the well-intentioned, and the truly destructive. From an eden-perfect George Washington to a Nixon kick-line, it’s a fascinating and entertaining ride.
“45 Plays” contains recorded gunshot sounds, mature themes, and adult language which may not be appropriate for all audiences. The show has a running time of 2 hours and 15 minutes plus one intermission.
Why NextStop Picked This Show
From July 2017 to June 2018, NextStop’s shows, in pairs, explore opposing and seemingly incompatible sides of big issues and ideas. Our hope is by providing a relaxed and entertaining venue for the community to gather together and be immersed in stories highlighting diverse perspectives, that we can help break down barriers which divide.
Theatre isn’t passive entertainment. When we leave the safety of our homes, interact with strangers sitting next to us, and turn off our phones, it is a powerful act of unity. Patrons of the theatre may not always agree with challenging works but do agree to consider them. In the spirit of that tradition, NextStop’s lineup of shows for July 2017 to June 2018 presents a “Point and Counterpoint” year of theatre.
Whereas in the fall, NextStop’s production of “Assassins“ managed to exterminate Presidents while maintaining an air of dignity around the office-holders themselves, “45 Plays” is a gloves-off approach to the often-hilarious and alternately-poignant doings of POTUS.
