Rodgers & Hammerstein Musical Starts NextStop’s Season

Director Michael J. Bobbitt’s Brings Cool Club Vibe to Classics

Herndon, VA / Washington, D.C. – NextStop Theatre kicked off their 5th season Saturday night with the Tony nominated Rodgers & Hammerstein musical revue “A Grand Night for Singing”. The company’s warehouse performance space near Reston Town Center has been transformed into a club-like environment, with an on-stage bar and an invitation to explore the set.

Playing through August 20, A Grand Night for Singing showcases favorites from Broadway hits such as The King and I, The Sound of Music, Carousel, Oklahoma!, South Pacific, and more.

The Rodgers & Hammerstein show is the first in a pair of shows picked by Producing Artistic Director Evan Hoffmann to demonstrate live theatre’s power of catharsis.

“This season debut is such a fun evening of theatre with remarkably talented singers. It fills the theatre space with joy–both from the music and from our patrons. In our ‘Point and Counterpoint’ season, it’s a great match in our ‘catharsis pair’ to the play Disgraced, which comes next in September” said Hoffmann.

Director Michael J. Bobbitt has assembled an impressive cast for A Grand Night for Singing, featuring Helen Hayes Award winner Matthew Hirsh and soprano Karen Vincent, last seen at NextStop in her Helen Hayes Nominated performance as Kate in Kiss Me Kate. New to Herndon/Reston audiences are Katherine Riddle, Sarah Anne Sillers, and Marquise White.

The production team includes Elisa Rosman as the Music Director, Bobby Libby as Assistant Director, Lighting Design by Jason Arnold, and Sound Design by Reid May. Laura Moody serves as Production Stage Manager assisted by Jessica Dubish.
