“NextStop Theatre’s “The Wolves” is raw as it unapologetically forgoes the stereotypes of teenage girls and allows the girls to define who they are.” – Broadway World

Herndon, VA / Washington, D.C. – NextStop Theatre Company opened the bold new play “The Wolves” by Sarah DeLappe on February 9, 2019. “The Wolves” is a Pulitzer Prize-nominated drama about the lives of suburban high school girls. Though the play is normally cast with women in their 20’s, for NextStop’s production, we hired teenage actresses from our community. “The Wolves” is directed by Kathryn Chase Bryer.
In her director’s note, Bryer writes why this play about teenagers is relevant to adults:
“Despite the fact that we might feel that we have moved beyond the teen years, many of us travel through our whole lives, keeping on the mask, terribly afraid to bump up against each other and possibly expose our vulnerability. And yet, the only way we have any chance to discover who we are is to truly interact with others, revealing who we really are, zits and all. In the age of Me Too, as women in our society are finally being recognized for who they are and not the men they are associated with, I am proud to work with these young actresses and proud to bring you a story that shares how female team culture and the power of women have much to teach us. May we all learn from them and pass it on, creating a kinder, more empathetic, and peaceful world in which to exist..” – Kathryn Chase Bryer.
Critical and audience reviews coming in are raving about the talent and chemistry of these young actresses:
“A team is only as strong as the players. NextStop Theatre’s production features an energetic young cast: Caroline Coleman (#25), Dominique Kalunga (#00), Vivian Lemons (#46), Jordan Hundley (#07), Teryn Cuozzo (#14), Jordan James (#11), Makayla Collins (#13), Maya Tischler (#02), and Rachel Lipetz (#08). For many of these young actresses, this is their first professional production and many have only acted in school productions. They are able to master their characters well by making them memorable and stand out as individuals even though the characters they play are part of a team. .” – Broadway World
