***ENROLLMENT IS OPEN – See below for registration links***
NextStop Summer Theatre Escape is a newly devised series of one-week education sessions, featuring daily, in-person acting, musical theatre, and improv workshops for 1st through 12th graders. The program has been designed to adhere to the highest standards of health and safety recommendations, to protect against the spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.
Each session will be three hours per day for five days and occur in our theater. Students will be given opportunities to participate in socially-distant activities and exercises on the stage, which provides over 800 square feet of open floor space. When not on stage, students will be spaced out in our 114-seat capacity audience. The session lengths are reduced to remove the need for unstructured breaks. The goal will be to facilitate sessions that enable students to practice safety, focus, and self-discipline.
This new program will not offer exactly the same kind of interactive, often frenetic summer days that have become a hallmark of our education programs. However, we have sensed the need in our students (really in all of us!) for creative expression and safe social interaction. This program will provide opportunities for collaboration, imagination, and greater individual attention from teaching artists due to smaller class sizes. It is our sincere hope that we can balance our desire to provide students with an artistic outlet, while honoring our commitment to the safety of our community.
NextStop’s top priority is ensuring the health and well-being of our students, staff, and community. However, it is up to each individual family to decide the circumstances and environment in which they are comfortable. We strongly encourage parents and students to carefully review the following list of primary rules and protocols that will be strictly enforced throughout the Theatre Escape program. If these fall outside of your family’s preferences, we recommend you consider whether this program is right for you.
- Students and staff will maintain social distance (6+ feet) at all times
Each student will be required to bring a mask and may be asked to use it at some or all times, depending on state requirements and/or teaching artist safety assessments
Only students and staff will be allowed to enter the facility
We will conduct mandatory touchless temperature checks at the start of each day
We will require frequent hand washing
A comprehensive cleaning process will be conducted between each session, by teaching artists and support staff
Students who do not meet and follow all health and safety requirements will be given a warning. If they continue to be unable to comply, they will be asked to leave the session, without a refund
DISCLAIMER: NextStop remains fully committed to placing the health and safety of our staff, students, and community above all else. As such, the start of this new program will be based on Northern Virginia successfully entering “Phase Two” of the governor’s recovery plan by early July and NextStop’s own evaluation that conditions become and remain acceptable. Failure to meet either of these benchmarks could result in cancellations, with refunds being automatically issued to all participants. Participants will also be permitted with withdrawal from the program without penalty until up to three days before the commencement of a session.
