First Look: Photos of “Fallen Angels” at NextStop Theatre in Herndon VA
Herndon, VA / Washington, D.C. – NextStop Theatre Company opened the timeless farce “Fallen Angels” by Noel Coward on March 16, 2019. Though Coward’s plays are immensely popular, this is the regional premiere of Coward’s second play, written in 1925. “Fallen Angels” is directed by NextStop’s Managing Director Abigail Isaac Fine, starring Teresa Spencer and Elizabeth Anne Jernigan. The cast also features Lorraine Magee, John Stange, James Finley and Robert Pike.
In her director’s note, Fine writes about why NextStop is producing this play now:
“For reasons we can’t figure out here at NextStop, this Noël Coward play is not produced as much as the others. In fact, to the best of our knowledge, this production of Fallen Angels is the first in the DC Metro Area! We hope it’s not because this play focuses on the female characters, but that is exactly why we love it. Fallen Angels, through a farcical comedy of manners, explores complex female desire and friendship. Though the situation here gets a bit ridiculous, we think there’s a lot to relate to, from the debate about being “in love” or not years into a marriage to the two sides of oneself that can be simultaneously true and directly opposite. Plus, we don’t want to dismiss the value of a golf outing, champagne girl’s night, or a fun night at the theatre!” – Abigail Isaac Fine
Critical and audience reviews coming in are raving about the design and performances:
“The scenic design by Emily Lotz is filled with gorgeous detail, and the lighting design by James Morrison is simple and effective, with small, dreamlike flourishes occur as Jernigan and Spencer reminisce about their pre-married lives. “Même les Anges,” a song prominently featured in the show with lyrics by Coward, is given a lovely composition by sound designer Reid May. Ultimately, it is the cast that makes Fallen Angels a show worth seeing by finding its characters’ rich inner cravings and giving them a soul and a voice.“
Performances are Thursdays through Sundays now through April 7, 2019. General Admission tickets start at $35. Tickets are available online at www.NextStopTheatre.org or by calling 866-811-4111. All seating is General Admission. Additional fees may apply.
