ABOUT THE PLAY:
PINOCCHIO! is a Commedia dell’Arte adaptation of the world-renowned novel by Italian children’s writer Carlo Collodi. Originally penned as a serial in 1881, “Le avventure di Pinocchio” (The Adventures of Pinocchio) was the birth of a rascally wooden character who would grow to be a time-honored favorite. Commedia dell’Arte (“theatre of the professional”) originated in Italy in the early 16th century and quickly spread throughout Europe, creating a lasting influence on theater around the world. Much like the wily Commedia servant characters, our puppet hero has a habit of getting himself into scrapes, running into colorful characters, and trying his best even at his worst. With masks and innovative physical story-telling, this new production will marry Commedia’s bold theatricality to a tale of foxes, fairies, high-strung puppet-masters and underwater beasts, as a brave puppet finds his path to becoming a real boy, and learns the true meaning of family.
ABOUT FACTION OF FOOLS:

The Fools are the Helen Hayes Awards recipients of the 2012 John Aniello Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company.
Through the company’s educational arm, Faction of Fools artists teach workshops and perform A Commedia Romeo and Juliet at schools and universities, steered by the belief that studying Commedia dell’Arte will enhance creativity, hone physical theatre skills, and spark imagination in all learners. PINOCCHIO! will enjoy four weeks of performances at The Industrial Strength Theatre this March 8th – 30th, and then spring immediately into action, touring to schools in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC.
