2014 Summer Theatre Adventures

NextStop Little Adventurers

(For Rising 1st through 3rd Graders)

It’s a theatre adventure, and you’re invited! Little Adventurers will explore the world of theatre with creative play, character creation, crafts, songs, movement, and theatre games. Each session has a different theme and culminates with a short showcase for family and friends at the end of the week.

July 14-18

From Goldilocks to The Big Bad Wolf, we will explore myth, magic, and epic tales! We may even create some new classics along the way.

July 21-25

Whodunnit? Scooby Doo, Encyclopedia Brown, and Nancy Drew have nothing on our Little Adventurers! We’ll discover what it takes to create (and solve!) our own mysteries.

August 18-22

On Stage!

Calling all budding actors! We’ll close out the summer by playing our favorite theatre games, creating characters, and making stories come to life in this “best of” session.

NextStop Summer Players

(For Rising 4th through 7th Graders)

From the spotlight to the scene shop, there is something for everyone in our Summer Players series. Learn the in’s and out’s of theatre and have a blast…Triple threats, comedians, and techies alike!

July 7-11 (1 week)

Operation: Improv

Whose line IS it anyway? Learn the art (and fun!) of acting without a script as we improvise our way through games, think on our feet, and create scenes without memorizing a single line! This week will be a non-stop laugh riot!

July 28- Aug 1 (1 week)

Backstage Creations

Have you ever wanted to learn what it is like behind the scenes? Budding designers will learn to create costumes and props, paint set pieces, and learn about lights and sound as we create the actual pieces that will be used on stage during Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Jr.!

Aug 4-15 (2 weeks)*

Put On A Show!

This is a 2 week session. Be our Guest! Aspiring actors, singers, and dancers will work together to put on a full scale production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Jr. Whether you are a seasoned performer or this is your first time on stage, there is a spot in the cast for everyone! Students will get mini classes on acting, singing, and choreography, and we will rehearse to put on our very own production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, Jr. All students enrolled in this session will appear on stage, and roles will be assigned on the first day of classes.

*Final performance will occur the morning of Sat. Aug.16.

How many students are in each session?

As this is a new program for NextStop, we are optimistic about numbers, but honestly aren’t sure how many will enroll! Our maximum enrollment for each week-long session will be 25, and the maximum for the 2 week “Let’s Put on a Show” session is 40. In the unlikely event of low-enrollment, a full refund will be issued and families will be notified in advance.

Tell me more about the Backstage Creations session!

Typical day will involve lots of Theatre games and learning about different areas of design (lights, sound, scene painting, costumes, stage make-up, props, etc) as well as trying them out. Students will also get to be hands-on in the session, and will actually get to help make the set, costumes, and props for our production of “Beauty and the Beast, Jr” which is being performed in the next camp session. Our Backstage Creations group is highly encouraged to come back and see their creations in action during Beauty and the Beast, Jr. August 15-16.

Will students have to audition to be a part of the Beauty and the Beast, Jr. cast (“Let’s Put on a Show” session)?

All students who enroll in the session will be a part of the cast! We will hold auditions the first day to determine who will be playing which roles, and students will get their scripts the first day. We will cast the show based on who enrolls in the session, and no roles are pre-cast… it will definitely be an adventure!

NextStop Theatre Company is a professional, not-forprofit theatre that produces theatrical performances and educational programs which are uniquely intimate, epic, and accessible, in and for Virginia’s Dulles Corridor community. After twenty-five years as the Elden Street Players, the organization made the bold decision to transition from an all-volunteer, community theatre to a professional, regional theatre. By doing so, we are able to improve our productions, expand our programming opportunities, and to better serve our local community.
