Open Casting Call Announcement: Wizard of Oz Auditions

 

Washington, DC / Herndon, VA — NextStop Theatre Company is seeking young performers in 3rd through 9th grade for a full-scale musical production of The Wizard of Oz this holiday season. This is an open call for unpaid/volunteer roles for this annual community outreach program. The production is supported by a team of high caliber directors, designers, technical personnel, and actors from NextStop’s professional company.

Rehearsals and Performance Schedule:

Rehearsals for “The Wizard of Oz” will take place between September 16th and November 30th. Not all actors will be called to all rehearsals, but until a schedule is published, please anticipate attending a majority of rehearsals as follows:

September and October: Mon/Wed (6-8:30pm), Sat (9am-12pm)

End of October-November: Mon/Wed/Thurs (6-8:30pm), Sat (9am-12pm)

November 26 to November 30: Nightly: 6-9pm

There will be no rehearsal from November 22-25 for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

 

Performances will be on Friday evenings at 7pm and Saturday/Sunday at 1pm and 5pm between December 1-17.

Ages:

We are looking for young actors and actresses in 3rd through 9th grade to portray characters in this musical classic.

 

Audition Dates & Times:

  • Sunday, September 10 6:00pm-8:30pm
  • Monday September 11, 2017 6:00pm-8:30pm

Auditions are BY APPOINTMENT. Actors must reserve an audition space online. Those unable to attend either audition date may e-mail: oz-casting@nextstoptheatre.org to discuss their situation, however, there are no guarantees actors with conflicts can be accommodated.

Signups will close on Friday, September 8 at 5pm. Those who have not reserved an audition time will only be seen at the end of the audition day, and only if time permits.

The audition process is designed to be as comfortable for young (but professional-acting) performers as possible. Actors will be seen in groups and asked to perform individually for the Director and other performers.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your audition time to check-in.

 

Fees and Expenses:

There is no tuition or enrollment fee for participation in NextStop Theatre’s production of “The Wizard of Oz.” Performers may be asked to provide certain garments for parts of their costume, if they are readily available and/or reasonably affordable. Otherwise, all costumes, props, and scenic elements will be constructed or purchased by NextStop Theatre and remain the company’s property following the show.

4) Prepare for Your Audition

Visit the audition materials folder, prepare the requested selections, and bring your audition materials with you to the audition.

5) Bring A Printed Photo

Your audition photo does not need to be a professional headshot, but the photo should be recent and look like the actor. This helps the Director remember the actor’s audition! Photos will NOT be taken or printed at the audition location, and photos will not be returned.
